Product Description
Detailed Specifications & Features
Labor-Saving Robotic Aluminum Polishing Machine For Gear Shift Fork
Precision force-controlled robotic polishing system engineered for the complex Y-fork geometry of aluminum gear shift forks. Achieve consistent Ra ≤0.2 μm on all contact surfaces with one operator running multiple cells.
The Challenge with Gear Shift Fork Polishing
Gear shift forks present one of the most demanding surface finishing challenges in drivetrain manufacturing:
  • Complex 3D geometry – Y-shaped arms, curved inner bore, and narrow fork tips all require different tool orientations
  • Critical contact surfaces – the inner bore ID and fork tip faces must meet tight Ra and dimensional tolerances to prevent wear and shifting noise
  • High mix, high volume – automotive and commercial vehicle lines run dozens of fork variants; manual re-setup kills throughput
  • Labor intensity & ergonomics – polishing aluminum castings by hand exposes workers to dust, vibration, and repetitive strain
LR-POLISH GSF Series robotic polishing cell for gear shift forks
Product Overview
LR-POLISH GSF Series – 6-Axis Robotic Polishing Cell for Aluminum & Ductile Iron Gear Shift Forks
The LR-POLISH GSF Series is purpose-engineered for the fork geometry found in manual transmission, agricultural, and commercial vehicle gearboxes. A compliant robotic spindle follows every contour of the Y-arm, central bore, and tip pad surfaces – delivering mirror-grade or functional finish on demand, shift after shift.

Key Features
01 – Adaptive Force Control for Fork Geometry
The compliant end-effector maintains a user-defined contact force (2-25 N, ±0.3 N) regardless of casting dimensional variation. Arms, bore radius, and tip faces are polished in a single uninterrupted program – no fixture change.
02 – Multi-Surface Coverage in One Cycle
Surface Zone Tooling Typical Ra Achieved
Inner bore ID Cylindrical felt bob Ra ≤0.1 μm
Fork arm flats Radial bristle disc Ra ≤0.2 μm
Fork tip contact pads Cloth buff + compound Ra ≤0.15 μm
Outer casting body Flap wheel (deburr+finish) Ra ≤0.8 μm
03 – Rapid Program Changeover
Offline Programming (OLP) from STEP/IGES CAD. New fork variant loaded in < 8 minutes – no teach-by-hand. Store unlimited part programs in the controller library.
04 – Dual-Station Rotary Table
While the robot polishes one fork on Station A, the operator loads/unloads Station B. Zero idle robot time – effective cycle time per part: 90-150 seconds.
05 – Integrated Deburr + Polish in One Pass
Combine flash/parting-line deburring and surface polishing in a single program. Eliminate a separate deburring workstation and reduce WIP inventory.
06 – Aluminum-Safe Dust Extraction
Closed-cell polishing enclosure with filtered extraction compliant with ATEX/OSHA aluminum dust regulations. Operator exposure levels reduced by >95% vs. open manual polishing.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Our fork has a very narrow tip pad – only 6 mm wide. Can the robot reach it?
A: Yes. We offer slim-profile bristle and felt tooling as narrow as 5 mm for tight fork tip geometries. Tooling selection is confirmed during the free application review.
Q: We run 12 different fork variants. Is it realistic to switch programs mid-shift?
A: Fully. Program changeover via HMI touchscreen takes under 2 minutes (operator selects part number; robot loads the stored path automatically). Physical fixture change for different fork sizes takes 5-8 minutes.
Q: Our forks are ductile iron, not aluminum. Does the system work?
A: Yes. The LR-POLISH GSF Series is dual-rated for aluminum alloy and ductile iron (QT450/QT600). Abrasive selection and force parameters are adjusted per material in the program.
Q: Can it integrate with our existing conveyor line?
A: Yes. The cell supports upstream/downstream conveyor interfacing via PROFINET or discrete I/O. Layout integration drawings are included in the application proposal.
Q: What is the minimum order / do you offer a pilot machine?
A: Single-cell orders are accepted. We also offer a 90-day pilot program for qualified high-volume manufacturers – contact us for eligibility.
