Detailed Specifications & Features
6-Axis Robotic Aluminum Polishing Machine For Cast Aluminum Product
6-Axis Robotic Polishing for Cast Aluminum — Any Geometry. Any Finish. Any Volume.

The only robotic polishing system engineered from the ground up for the full spectrum of cast aluminum components — from engine housings and pump bodies to structural brackets and enclosures. Achieve Ra ≤0.05 μm mirror finish or functional Ra ≤0.4 μm in a single automated cell.

Why Cast Aluminum is the Hardest Surface to Polish — And How We Solve It

Cast aluminum presents a unique combination of challenges that defeat generic polishing machines:

Challenge Why It's Hard Our Solution
Dimensional variation Die-cast & gravity-cast parts vary ±0.3-0.8 mm batch to batch Force-controlled end-effector auto-compensates in real time
Complex 3D contours Curved flanges, internal cavities, boss radii, fillets 6-axis reach + compliant spindle covers any surface angle
Soft, gummy material Aluminum loads abrasives fast, smears under excess pressure Adaptive pressure control prevents over-polishing and loading
Porosity & inclusion Sub-surface pores revealed by heavy polishing = scrap Gentle, consistent force reveals fewer pores vs. manual buffing
Multi-surface parts Sealing faces, OD bosses, cosmetic covers all on one casting Multi-step program polishes all zones in one fixturing

Product Overview
LR-POLISH CA Series — 6-Axis Force-Controlled Robotic Polishing Cell for Cast Aluminum Components

Built on a heavy-duty industrial robot platform with a purpose-designed compliant polishing spindle, the LR-POLISH CA Series delivers repeatable, process-validated surface finishing across the widest range of cast aluminum geometries in the industry. One cell. One operator. Unlimited part programs.

Key Features
01 — True 6-Axis Freedom

Full 6-axis articulation allows the polishing tool to approach every surface of a complex casting at the optimal angle — eliminating the "shadow zones" that defeat 3- and 4-axis gantry polishers.

  • Wrist rotation: ±360°
  • Reach envelope: up to 2,010 mm
  • Repeatability: ±0.02 mm
02 — Intelligent Force Control

The proprietary compliant spindle unit measures and adjusts contact force 1,000* per second.

  • Force range: 1-30 N (user-defined per zone)
  • Resolution: ±0.2 N
  • Result: uniform material removal regardless of casting warpage, porosity, or dimensional scatter
03 — Multi-Stage Polishing in One Program

Define up to 12 sequential polishing stages within a single part program:

Stage Tool Target
Flash / parting line removal Rotary carbide burr Dimensional
Pre-polish 320-600 grit flap disc Ra ≤0.8 μm
Intermediate polish Sisal buff + cutting compound Ra ≤0.2 μm
Fine polish Cotton buff + fine compound Ra ≤0.1 μm
Mirror finish Flannel buff + mirror compound Ra ≤0.05 μm
04 — Offline Programming (OLP)

Import casting CAD (STEP / IGES / STL) → generate polishing paths in simulation → deploy to robot. No teach pendants. No production downtime for new model introduction.

  • New part program: < 4 hours (engineer) / < 10 min changeover (operator)
  • Unlimited program storage
  • Simulation video included with every new part program
05 — Inline Ra Verification

Optional integrated contact profilometer checks Ra on critical surfaces after each cycle. Auto pass/fail with SPC data logging — full traceability per part.

06 — Dual-Station Rotary Indexer

Robot polishes Part A while operator loads/unloads Part B. Effective robot utilization: >92%. No idle time between cycles.

07 — Aluminum-Safe Enclosure & Extraction
  • Fully enclosed polishing cell (IP54 enclosure)
  • Integrated HEPA-grade aluminum dust extraction
  • Compliant with ATEX Zone 22 / OSHA 1910.94 aluminum dust standards
  • Operator exposure: <0.5 mg/m³ (well below TLV-TWA)

How It Works
STEP 1 — PROGRAM

Import casting CAD → Generate OLP path → Simulate & validate → Deploy in < 10 min

STEP 2 — LOAD

Operator places part on dual-station rotary fixture (Station B loads while A polishes)

STEP 3 — POLISH

6-axis robot runs multi-stage program: deburr → pre-polish → fine polish → mirror finish

STEP 4 — INSPECT

Inline Ra probe checks critical surfaces auto pass / fail logged

STEP 5 — UNLOAD

Finished part exits with Ra cert & SPC data stamp

STEP 6 — REPEAT

Next part enters Station A; zero robot idle time

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: We have 40+ casting variants. Is managing that many programs realistic?
A: Yes. Programs are stored by part number in the controller library. Operators select from a dropdown menu — changeover takes under 8 minutes. OLP means adding new variants is an engineering task, not a robot re-teach.
Q: Our castings have deep pockets (up to 150 mm depth). Can the robot reach inside?
A: Slim-profile tool extensions (down to 22 mm diameter, up to 180 mm extension) allow polishing of deep pockets and bores. Tool collision simulation in OLP confirms clearance before the robot runs.
Q: We need both cosmetic mirror finish on external surfaces and functional Ra ≤0.4 μm on sealing faces — in the same cycle. Is this possible?
A: Yes. Multi-stage programs apply different tools, speeds, forces, and compounds to different surface zones of the same part — all in one fixturing. Sealing faces and cosmetic surfaces are processed with separate parameters in sequence.
Q: What is the minimum batch size that makes automation worthwhile?
A: For recurring production, batches of 50+ parts/day per variant typically justify automation. For high-mix / low-volume, our cell's fast changeover makes it viable at lower batch sizes than traditional automation. Contact us with your production profile for a specific ROI model.
Q: Can the system handle aluminum alloys prone to work-hardening (e.g., 7075)?
A: Yes. Force control parameters and abrasive selection are tuned per alloy. We have validated processes for ADC12, A380, A356, 6061, 7075, and AlSi10Mg (additive).
Q: Do you offer leasing or pay-per-part models?
A: We offer flexible acquisition models including outright purchase, finance lease, and — for qualified high-volume manufacturers — a Process-as-a-Service arrangement. Contact us for details.
